Liturgical Ministries

Liturgy Committee

The Liturgy committee coordinates the worship and liturgical celebrations of the parish. The group is guided by the liturgical documents of the Catholic Church, the diocese, and St. Edmond parish. They plan the annual liturgical calendar, develop and communicate appropriate liturgical practices, recruit and help form lay ministers of the liturgy and of hospitality, promote prayer life, and ensure a reverant phyical enviroment.

The Liturgy group meets every month, September through June. Parishioners are welcome to attend. Click here or check our Parish Events tab for specific meeting dates, time, and location.

More information may be obtained by contacting Connie Benko, Ministry Group Chairperson, at cbenko@stedmond.org.

Altar Servers

Boys and girls who have celebrated their First Eucharist are welcomed and encouraged to take an active role in ministry by assisting with the tasks involved in our liturgical celebrations. Adults are also invited to participate in this ministry.

As Ministers of the Altar, they share in the same dignity of leadership as the Acolyte, Cantor, Lector, Deacon, Presider, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Choir and Usher. Our Servers are witnesses to the people of our parish. They serve with dignity, close attention, and reverence. Their attentive service is always noticed and appreciated by our parish community.

Please contact the St. Edmond's Parish Office, 302 227 4550 for further information.

Bereavement Ministry

On behalf of the parish, bereavement ministers help provide comfort to parishioners and family who have lost a loved one through death. Members send sympathy cards and may telephone or visit the bereaved. Other ministers serve as greeters at funeral home viewings and assist at funeral Masses.

More information may be obtained by contacting Yvonne Bailey, Ministry Coordinator, at serbde@comcast.net or by calling the parish office at 302 227 4550.

Environmental Ministry

Cheryl Cherney, Chairperson

The Environment Ministry group works to enhance the interior of the church for regularly scheduled Masses, special Masses, and other liturgical celebrations, so that the Liturgy can be more fully enriched for all parishioners. The group has three major areas of responsibility—decorating, sacristans, and sewing. All members are parishioner volunteers who share their talents and skills in these areas.

The decorating group plans, prepares, and places the décor for the major liturgical events such as Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. The main objective is to decorate God’s house in a simple yet elegant style so as to enhance, but not detract, from the people’s worship. Changing decorations frequently and keeping plants and flowers fresh ensures the church environment is appealing to all.

The sacristans are the “housekeepers” of the altar. They launder altar linens such as purificators, corporals, altar cloths, and hand towels used by the priests. They polish the brass candlesticks, wash the glass globes and dust the area. Cleaning and refilling the holy water fonts at each door is also on their “to do” list.

Members of the sewing group use sewing machines, as well as needles and thread. The group was started in 2000 with the initial purpose of making baptismal bibs for our infants. They continue with the bibs and have added making RCIA scapulars, altar cloths, and altar server albs. They also make the dalmatics for the Deacons and chasubles for the Priests.

All our volunteers enjoy doing their part in making our liturgical services more beautiful and meaningful for all.

The Environment Ministry group and sewing group meets in the fall, winter and spring. Click here or check our Parish Events tab for specific meeting dates, time, and location.

Two sacristans are scheduled for each week. The rotation depends on the number available. Past schedule has been every six weeks.

Workshops are scheduled as needed.

Music

Music is an essential part of offering the finest praise we can to our God. Musicians are called to enhance the theme of the liturgy and to encourage, lead, and support the assembly in their participation at Mass. Our Music Ministry consist of cantors/song leaders, organists, guitarists and St. Edmond Adult Choir. New singers and instrumentalists are always welcome!

Click here or check our Parish Events tab for specific rehearsal dates, time, and location.

Ushers

Ushers provide a very special and important hospitality service to those who come to celebrate Mass. They welcome and seat arriving worshipers and offer help to those that may need special assistance. Ushers facilitate the offertory collections, select individuals to bring the gifts up to the altar, and direct worshipers for Holy Communion. In general, they work to ensure a comfortable and inviting church environment!

Usher Ministry meetings are scheduled as needed.  Please contact Cathy Paulish, Usher Liaison, at cathypaulish@comcast.net for more information or to volunteer.
