St. Peregrine Society

Thursday, July 17

Peregrine Laziosi was born in Forli, Italy, in 1260. Following the instructions of the Virgin Mary received in a vision, Peregrine went to Siena and joined the Servites. When he was afflicted with cancer of the foot and amputation had been decided upon, he spent the night before the operation, in prayer. The following morning he was completely cured. This miracle caused his reputation to become widespread. He died in 1345 at the age of eighty-five, and he was canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1726. He is the patron of cancer and HIV and other disabling diseases. The Saint Peregrine Society is a group of parishioners who gather to pray for the healing of those who suffer with cancer, HIV and other disabling diseases. The prayer service consists of song, saying the rosary, psalms and intercessory prayers to St. Peregrine. Each service ends with a personal blessing and distribution of medals and holy cards. Our next meeting will take place after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Thursday, July 17, in the church. This group meets the third Thursday of every month.
