This Weekend's Second Collection

Collection for Sacred

Heart Parish

Sacred Heart Parish in Whiteville, NC

Our second collection this weekend, July 19/20, will help the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Whiteville, NC. This past November, Deacon Dave McDowell left St. Edmond and moved to the Whiteville, NC, area to be closer to his children and grandchildren. After visiting several Catholic churches in the area, Deacon Dave felt that he was being called to minister to parishioners at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enthusiastically “jumped in feet first.”

Sacred Heart was established as a mission in the 1930s and dedicated as a church in 1941. In 1962 the parish acquired its first full-time pastor, Fr. Kendal, and a parish hall was built. In 1964, the Sacred Heart Parish was elevated to a full parish. Sacred Heart is a small church with a long list of must-haves and needs.

We all remember Deacon Dave’s enthusiastic personality. When Deacon Dave sees that something needs to be done, he takes the initiative and is passionate about accomplishing whatever needs to be done. The list of repairs, improvements, updates, liturgical needs, and a vision for the future for this Church needs our help. Deacon Dave will tell us this weekend what we can do to help this parish with our second collection.
